How to spend 4 days in Agnes Water and Town Seventeen Seventy

Town Seventeen Seventy – not 1770 – in the Gladstone region of Queensland is a popular roadtrip destination for Queenslanders, and when we visited a few years back we quickly decided we’d retire here one day.

Here are a few ideas on what to do if you find yourself in the area.

Book a day-trip with Lady Musgrave Cruises

Book yourself in for a day-trip with Lady Musgrave Cruises. You can go snorkelling, take a guided tour on the coral covered Lady Musgrave Island, or take a fishing charter with the boys (food for the day is included).

If you do choose to go for the guided tour of Lady Musgrave Island, you’ll learn all about the local bird-life and hear interesting facts about the fascinating ecosystem.

Don’t forget to pack your GoPro. While you shouldn’t torment the local turtles, sometimes they’ll pop up close enough for a selfie – or just to say g’day.

Book a tree-top or beach chalet in Agnes Water

For a top-notch glamping experience, book accommodation at a tree-top chalet or a beach-front bungalow at the Agnes Water Beach Holiday park.

We absolutely loved our treetop chalet, kitted out with a bathroom, kitchen, bed, tables and outdoor couch.

Treat yourself to takeaway at Off the Hook

After a long day out on the water, return to your beach-front chalet and take a short stroll up the street to Off the Hook takeaway (previously Hook In).

The burgers are better in Agnes Water.

Fishing in Town Seventeen Seventy

After a well deserved (and very comfortable) sleep, get up early, grab your fishing rod, and wet a line at nearby Town Seventeen Seventy.

Sunset paddling with a kayak tour operator

At the end of the day, hire a kayak from the marina and paddle off into the sunset. We didn’t do this, but kayakers passed us by as we continued fishing until the sun went down, and it sure looked like a sweet ride.
