5 things you need to cook the ultimate bush breakfast

Cut up some firewood, drag it back to your campsite, start the fire and get these utensils out to cook a tasty camping breakfast on a cold winters morning.

What you’ll need

  • Single gas burner or an established campfire with hot coals
  • Kettle
  • Pot or bowl to mix ingredients
  • Cutlery to eat (or use your hands, I won’t judge)
  • A griddle to put over the fire/coals
  • Frying pan

  • Eggs (however many you like)
  • Chives
  • Bacon (however much you like)
  • Olive oil
  • Bagels

Step 1: Fire up the single burner, and pop the kettle on. Wait for the whistle to go off, then make yourself a coffee.

Step 2: Crack six eggs into a pot lined with butter, and throw in some finely chopped chives. Cook over low heat, stirring as you go to scramble the eggs.

Step 3: Either wait until the eggs are done on the single burner, or put some butter or oil on a frying pan and sit it on top of some hot coals beside the fire. Whack some bacon on, and sizzle until it’s crisped up to your desire.

Stand back, don’t let the oil spit onto your precious skin.

Step 4: Place the bagels over the hot coals on top of the griddle. Turn once it’s toasted to your liking.

Step 5: Sit back and enjoy your tasty breakfast.
